Bengaluru vs Hyderabad: 2026 Tech Salary Benchmark by Role

Bengaluru still pays the highest absolute tech salaries in India, but Hyderabad has nearly closed the gap in 2026 for AI, data, and product roles. Adjusted for rent and commute, Hyderabad now wins on take-home for most mid-career engineers.

Software Engineer (3–5 yrs): Bengaluru ₹22–32 LPA · Hyderabad ₹20–30 LPA. Gap: ~6%.

AI Engineer / ML Engineer (3–5 yrs): Bengaluru ₹28–48 LPA · Hyderabad ₹26–46 LPA. Gap: ~3% — narrower than any other role thanks to Microsoft and Amazon hiring at parity bands.

Data Scientist (3–5 yrs): Bengaluru ₹22–35 LPA · Hyderabad ₹21–34 LPA.

Product Manager (3–5 yrs): Bengaluru ₹30–55 LPA · Hyderabad ₹26–48 LPA. Gap: ~12% — the widest, driven by D2C and fintech concentration in Bengaluru.

Rent is the swing factor. A 2BHK in HSR Layout averages ₹65K/month vs ₹38K in Gachibowli — a ₹3.2 L/year advantage that flips the comparison for many engineers. If salary is within 10%, Hyderabad is the better take-home city in 2026.
