Oracle, Meta, CRED — why June 2026 grads are walking into the angriest jobs market in five years
Two weeks of compounding bad news: Oracle revoked 50+ campus offers at IITs and NITs, Meta India cut its ad-sales team on May 29, and CRED is reportedly running silent weekly layoffs. Here's what affected freshers should actually do this week.
The last two weeks have stacked badly for India's Class of 2026, just as June onboarding windows open.
- May 14 — Oracle revoked campus and pre-placement offers across IIT Delhi, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Hyderabad, Roorkee, Guwahati, BHU, NIT Warangal and VNIT Nagpur. Placement cells confirm 50+ offers withdrawn; the All IITs Placement Committee is now pushing for the standard three months' salary as compensation. Trigger: Oracle's ~30,000 global layoffs in April (≈12,000 in India) and the wind-down of its Health and Application Infrastructure unit — the exact division that hired most of these freshers.
- May 28 — Viral allegations that CRED quietly cut over 30% of its tech team over 1–2 months, severance for some but not all, seniors out, interns in.
- May 29 — Meta India cut 12 ad-sales and marketing roles as part of a global AI-driven restructure that has already removed 8,000 positions worldwide.
Layered on top: ANSR's CEO said GCC mandates are being scoped at 30–50% lower headcount as AI absorbs entry-level work. India's top 5 IT firms added a net of 17 employees across the first 9 months of FY26 (vs. ~18,000 a year earlier).
What to do this week if you're affected:
- Email your placement cell today. Most IITs/NITs are making exceptions to the one-student-one-job lock for revoked offers — but only if you ask in writing this week.
- Apply off-campus, aggressively, into the right buckets. GCC graduate programs, AI-specialist tracks (Infosys SP L3 at ₹21 LPA still hiring), and remote-first SaaS are the three pools still moving. Live openings on the OwnYourCareer jobs board, filtered for AI / ML roles and Bengaluru / Hyderabad GCCs.
- Audit your resume against the actual JD. Off-campus screening is keyword-driven. The AI Resume Fit Score tells you, in 30 seconds, which terms you're missing — before you press send.
- Stop treating any single offer as final. Until you join and clear probation, every offer is conditional. Keep three live conversations going at all times.
This is not a fresher problem you caused. It's a market shift. Run the process, not the panic.
