The five stages

Build and manage scalable systems on AWS, Azure and GCP.

  1. Stage 1Months 0–2

    Foundations

    Linux + networking + one cloud. Build, break, rebuild — fluency comes from operating real infrastructure, not from videos.

    • Linux daily: bash, systemd, networking (tcpdump, ss, iptables)
    • Pick one cloud (AWS / GCP / Azure) free-tier; deploy 5 services
    • Docker + one CI pipeline + Terraform basics on a tiny project
    Salary range₹6L – ₹15L
  2. Stage 2Months 2–5

    First job-ready skills

    Infrastructure-as-code is non-negotiable at senior level. Start now — every cloud project you ship should have a Terraform / Pulumi repo behind it.

    • Terraform / Pulumi on one production-shaped project with remote state
    • Kubernetes: kubectl, Helm, namespaces, secrets, RBAC, HPA
    • Observability stack: Prometheus + Grafana + structured logs
    Salary range₹6L – ₹15L
  3. Stage 3Months 5–10

    Real projects

    Operate something for 30+ days. Cost reviews, incident writeups, capacity planning — these are senior-band signals at GCCs even for mid-level offers.

    • Deploy + operate a real service for 30+ days with monitoring + alerting
    • Cost optimisation case study with a measurable saving (≥ 20%)
    • Write one public incident response post-mortem (anonymised if needed)
    Salary range₹15L – ₹20L
  4. Stage 4Year 2–3

    Specialisation

    Cloud engineering forks into Platform, SRE, Security or Architecture. Pick early — Indian GCCs hire and pay by track at senior level.

    • Choose: Platform, SRE, Security/Compliance, or Cloud Architect
    • Cert (signal, not gate): CKA / AWS Pro / GCP Pro / Azure Architect
    • Lead one runbook + chaos-test exercise; publish the result
    Salary range₹20L – ₹28L
  5. Stage 5Year 4+

    Senior trajectory

    Multi-region architecture, DR, capacity planning. Senior Cloud at AWS India / Capgemini / TCS / Infosys clears ₹30L+ with security + compliance fluency.

    • Design multi-region architecture with explicit failover + DR plan
    • Lead on-call leadership + post-incident culture for a 24/7 service
    • Security & compliance: SOC2 / ISO 27001 fluency at audit level
    Salary range₹28L – ₹40L
