OwnYourCareer reports on a market we also operate in. This page documents how we keep editorial decisions independent from commercial relationships, and how readers can identify sponsored content at a glance.
Our revenue model
OwnYourCareer is operated by OYC Labs. We earn revenue from:
- Employer subscriptions — companies pay to post jobs, build branded employer pages, and reach candidates through the OwnYourCareer Jobs platform.
- Sponsored research partnerships — selected employers, training providers, and immigration consultancies sponsor specific research reports. Sponsorship is always disclosed.
- Candidate tools — premium tiers of the Resume Fit Score, career planner, and interview-prep suite.
Editorial coverage of any company, employer, or training provider is firewalled from our commercial relationships with that organisation.
Sponsored content disclosure
- Sponsored articles are clearly labelled "Sponsored" in the article kicker and again in the byline area.
- Sponsored research reports include a top-of-page disclosure naming the sponsor and stating which sections (if any) of the report were reviewed by the sponsor prior to publication.
- We never publish content under a desk byline (the six named editors) that has been paid for. Sponsored content runs under a dedicated "OwnYourCareer Studio" byline so editorial bylines are exclusively unsponsored.
Coverage decisions
- What we cover — career, hiring, salaries, placements, skills, immigration, study abroad, and the companies/industries that drive those decisions. Topical authority is the goal; we do not chase off-topic news for traffic.
- Who we name — companies named in coverage are named on the strength of public information (filings, announcements, hiring activity, employee reports). We do not agree to coverage in exchange for an interview, access, or advertising spend.
- Coverage trades declined — we routinely decline requests for favourable coverage tied to commercial agreements. If an employer offers us interview access in exchange for editorial control, we will publish a story naming that request.
Conflicts of interest
Editors disclose to the editor-at-large any personal financial interest (ESOP holdings, founding-team relationships, contract consulting engagements) in companies they cover. Where a conflict exists, the article either gets reassigned to a different desk or carries a disclosure note in the byline area.
Reader-facing transparency
Anything labelled "OwnYourCareer Editorial" or signed by one of our six named desk editors is unsponsored, independently reported, and reviewed under our Editorial Policy. Anything labelled "Sponsored" or "OwnYourCareer Studio" is paid placement.
Reporting concerns
If you believe editorial coverage on OwnYourCareer is compromised by a commercial relationship, email ethics@ownyourcareer.in. Concerns are reviewed by the editor-at-large and the response timeline is published in our quarterly editorial review.
